Dear Parents,
Here at Saint John's we
have developed a special way of helping
families with children to feel welcome and
participate more fully in the mass.
Our 10AM Mass on every Sunday is a Family
Mass. We want you as a parent to know
that you can come to this mass and not be
anxious about your children or fearful that
they will be disruptive. Those who
come to the Family Mass know that there are
small children around. You can move
about the church if you need to. There
is a children's area in the foyer with books
and a rocking chair. You can also take
your child to the restrooms downstairs in
the hall. After mass we have juice,
coffee, and pastry.
During the school year we
have special activities for families with
children. A group of parents have
worked with me to find new ways to help
children become more involved in the mass.
On several Sundays we invite children from a
particular grade level to take special
rolls. For instance, they draw
pictures of the bible story to display
before mass; they greet people coming to
mass; they (older children) help with the
collection; they bring the gifts of bread
and wine; they distribute the bulletins at
the end of mass.
We would really like to
have you and your children join us every
Sunday. Going to church helps families
not only to grow closer to God, it also
helps them spend quality time together.
Please think seriously about making our
Family Mass a part of your Sunday. I
would love to have you worship with us!
Sincerely yours,
Father John MacInnis
Pastor
